A COLLECTIVE TURNING POINT - AND A PERSONAL ONE

We are in a seismic shift. The world isn’t just changing. It is shaking at its core - and us with it.

We have come to a collective crossroads. This is much bigger than each one of us. It is a collective turning point.

The systems we once knew are breaking apart. The rules we once played by are failing us. Wave after wave, hitting and rocking the shores of what we thought was safe harbour.

Pivotal moments have always been about shaking us to our core, stopping us in our tracks and having us reconsider what we are doing and why.

They are here to wake us up to the fact that we are climbing the wrong mountain. They come in different shapes and forms - whatever snaps us out of our everyday autopilot and has us ask deeper questions about our potential, purpose and the impact we are here to have.

This collective pivotal moment is no different. But it adds another dimension.  It is here to jolt us back onto the right track - not just each one of us individually, but systemically.

It is setting up a choice. As humans, will we keep on the destructive march we are on. Or instead start creating a new paradigm of genuine flourishing -  within ourselves, each other and the planet itself.

The future starts now.  It is not set - it is yet to be written.  

Yes, we are facing an ending.  But there is hope - because this can also be the dawn of a new beginning.  One where we can rise up for a new world - and create something better together.

For many of us, that is triggering a pivotal moment of our own.  A crossroads where we feel increasingly out of synch with our own business as usual:

Because the way we have all been travelling up until now - won’t get us to where we need to go next. As you don't navigate off-piste the same way you do on piste.

We are all being called - whether we like it or not and whether we are already in the for impact field or not - to travel this next chapter fundamentally differently. By relating - to ourselves, our work, and our leadership in a profoundly new way.

There is no cavalry that is coming to save us.  We are the cavalry we are waiting for.  And this is not a drill.  This is a time of systemic transition.

Beyond the desire to have a positive impact, it means deciding to do what is yours to do now.  To take your own place in the system shift.  To play your unique part in this time of transition.  And to shape what comes next from your choices, creativity and courage.

That is what it means to become a purpose-led leader and join the 'transition team' that is now gathering.

To shift from being a good soldier of the old status quo - who sustains, maintains or plugs the gaps in the existing system.  To become a brave builder of the new - who fundamentally evolves it by being truly, uniquely and fully yourself.

• Transformational: Where you bring your unique piece of the jigsaw by accepting that where you feel like a misfit is your mission now.  'If you feel like you don't fit into this world, it is because you were born to create a new one'. Ross Caligiuri 
• Emergent: Where you seed, plant and grow your garden patch to bring to life what doesn't exist yet by trusting in your own way of doing things. 'You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete'. Buckminster Fuller

And that is what we are being called to now.

The thing is that most of us were trained as 'good soldiers' - not as brave builders who can shape the system that comes next.  

And so although we might have expertise in sustainability or other 'for impact' thematics, we are usually not equipped within ourselves, our work or our leadership for the systemic re-invention we need now.

Be it to create our own security and prosperity in the midst of the current chaos.  Nor to lead through it so that we transform at the level of depth, speed and scale that will really make the difference.

Most people at pivotal moments try and find the solution 'out there' - that magic pill or perfect new location that is going to make it all right.  But that is not how it works.

The truth is: Yes the world has answers - but not your answers.  And when your world is turning upside down, the only way forward is... inward.  Tuning into the part of you that does know the way.

The secret of pivotal moments is this - personally or collectively, it is showing you where you are not aligned with who you are here to be, what you are here to do or the difference you are here to make.  

Because when it is all falling apart - what you are being called back to is the only real compass, map and navigation system you have - which is your inner one.  And if you don’t turn towards it, you risk getting swept away in the storm.
