We are at a pivotal time in human history.
One thing I am noticing with my clients across the board is that they are feeling the call to a level of higher purpose in their work. Beyond fulfilling work they crave a new level of personal impact.
I love hero movies. I know it’s kind of embarrassing.
But I just love the ordinary guy or girl who is called to something greater than themselves. Who first ignores the call. And then moves beyond the confusion, the doubts and finds it in themselves to rise up.
Eventually standing for what they believe in, inspiring others to join them and together they save the day. Cue happy ending.
The thing with hero movies is that they remind us that we all get called. And at this point in human history we are all being called.
I tried to ignore my call when it came. We all do. That feeling that although I was successful on the outside, something was missing on the inside. That sense that something was not quite right but I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly.
Deep down I knew something wasn’t aligned. That I was being called to more. That I was here for a specific purpose and that it was time to live it. But I was scared. I thought that I had too much to lose. And where would I even start?
I don’t know if our real life planet shifting movie will have a happy ending. But what I know is that we are being asked to upgrade the operating system on this planet. I also know that history gets created by people making choices to step up in their daily lives even when it is uncomfortable.
What I am hearing from leaders at this time is that they are questioning work and asking themselves if it is time for something else. They have this niggling feeling on the inside that won’t go away. This sense that something is missing. That something needs to shift. And they are thinking ‘This is crazy, how can I leave my job now?'
I get it, it’s scary. But in my experience answering the call doesn’t mean you have to leave everything behind. Most of my clients build their next level of purpose in their existing job or company.
And the good news is that this new world already has a head start. So there are many exciting new ways that you can contribute to its acceleration.
Just like the hero standing on the edge of his or her destiny, all it takes is to take that first step.
